Overview of Enterprise Edition¶
The Enterprise Edition of the Tool is a data sharing and model management platform designed to support multiple business processes within or among utility organizations. Built upon the same infrastructure as the Desktop Edition of the Tool, it provides additional features essential for the supported use cases. This article provides a very high-level overview of these additional features.
Note
The features described in this article are not available in Desktop Edition of the Tool.
Multi-User & Multi-Environment¶
Built as a distributed enterprise solution, the Enterprise Edition serves as a shared platform, enabling multiple users to work collaboratively. Architecturally, the Enterprise Edition consists of three loosely coupled tiers:
- Repository storing modeling and administration information
- Server hosting multiple workspaces and providing services
- Client user interfaces designed for modeling engineers and administrators.
The communication protocol used between Client and Server is REST/HTTPS.

The Enterprise Edition enables unlimited numbers of workspaces (modeling environments) to be created and persisted, serving for different purposes. More specifically, the following workspaces can be created:
- Private Workspace: accessible only by the user who create it;
- Group Workspace: accessible only by a group of selected users;
- Public Workspace: shared by all of the registered users;
Authentication & Authorization:¶
The Enterprise Edition enforces authentication and authorization. Only authenticated users can log into the system to perform the authorized tasks. Both Role-based and MAS-based authorizations are supported:
- Role-based: what functions or groups of functions can be executed.
- MAS-based: what portions of model can be accessed/modified.

Additionally,
- Multiple Roles and MAS can be assigned to a
- User
- Workspace
- Authorization is enforced at both
- Server
- Client UI
- Authorization is highly customizable, providing
- Bult-in templates
- Scripting support
Time-based & Collaborative Modeling¶
The Enterprise Edition is designed to support time-based modeling, enabling users to:
- Maintain as-built models in support of real-time operation;
- Derive ad-hoc study cases to support operational and long-term planning;
- Facilitate model change collection and maintenance of regional RTO/RC models.
One of the design goals of the Enterprise Edition is to foster collaboration, enabling users from different groups or organizations to work collaboratively. It enforces a configurable workflow during the entire life cycle of a Project, ranging from creation to commitment.

User & Model Administration¶
The Enterprise Edition comes with a Web-based administration tool, enable system and model administrators to
- Manage
- Users
- Workspaces
- Projects
- Customize
- Authorizations
- Workflow
