Detection of Unusual Modeling Patterns¶
As a vendor-neutral standard information model, CIM is less restrictive than most proprietary information models. It allows for diversified model practices, some of which are not quite common. When consuming a foreign CIM model, applications developers are eager to find those unsupported modeling patterns so that they can seek an effective working around at the early stage of the development. The Tool will alert users of those unusual modeling patterns.
For example, some EMS vendor’s network models don’t allow PowerTransformers to connect two Substations. In order to handle this unsupported modeling pattern, application developers may have to manipulate the received CIM models by introducing some small-impedance branches between two Substations. The Tool identifies this unusual modeling pattern during the model validation process. Because this modeling practice is acceptable in CIM, the detected incidences are classified as “Alert” as highlighted in the following screenshot,

The provided hyperlinks in the validation report enable users to navigate to the corresponding Neighborhood Diagram for better understanding of the detected incidences. As shown in the following level-1 Neighborhood Diagram, 5 two-winding PowerTransformers span across two Substations.
