Model Assembling and Partition

Model Assembling and Partition – figure 1

The Tool provides a variety of functions in support of CIM-based model exchange business processes. Model assembling and partition is one of these key functions supported. It enables users to assemble related data sets into an integrated or split a single data set into different data groups. The model assembling and partition functions are based on the standard model exchange methodologies and concepts, such as profile-specified data groups, header specification, and Model Authority Set, etc. Users can leverage these functions for various purposes, including building a study case to feed a planning tool and validating the model in a broad context.

Functions

More specifically, the Tool provides the following business-oriented model assembling and partition functions:

Options

The Tool provides a generic solution to meet various model assembling business requirements. Instead of offering a particular solution to address a specific business requirement, the tool provides various common options and features that can be selected to address different business requirements. These options and features include

  • Consistency Checking: enabling users to perform a consistency checking prior to model assembling.
  • Unrestricted Model Assembling: allowing any two selected models to be assembled. This option yields the full control to users.
  • Assembling As a Union: allowing any two models originated from the same source to be combined as a union.
  • Automatic Model Assembling: automatically detecting the model dependencies based on model header specification and performing model assembling/assembling sequentially based on the detected model dependencies. This feature provides a one-stop solution for assembling various data groups submitted by different model authorities and then assembling them into a region-wide study case.
  • Cleaning up Assembled Model: enabling users to clean up the assembled models by disabling or removing the boundary external equivalences no longer needed.
  • Conversion of Bus/Branch to Pseudo Node/Breaker: enabling users to convert a bus/branch model to a pseudo node/breaker model, or a mixed bus/branch and node/breaker to an assembled model supporting both node/breaker and bus/branch.
  • Partition of an Assembled Model: Splitting a assembled model into various data groups based on the governing profiles.
  • Filtering Model: Filtering the model based on the governing profiles.

Recommendations

The recommended model assembling activity involves four steps:

  1. Consistency checking: This process checks the consistence between two models to be assembled prior to actual assembling.
  2. Assembling the models – This process performs the actual model assembling. Users must select one of the models as the base model, and then assemble other models into it.
  3. Cleaning up the models – This process disables or removes the boundary external equivalences no longer needed.
  4. Running the validation for the combined model – Once the models are assembled, run the validation for the combined model to find any problems incurred.
  5. Exporting the assembled model – The assembled model can be exported into a new CIM/XML file. However, the model assembling history will not be saved in the exported document. Such information disappears once the base model is unloaded.
