Visual Data Mining

The Tool is primarily a data-driven tool. It provides a variety of information rendering techniques to present the underlying model. However, simply presenting the model as it is provides limited assistance, especially if the volumes of data and information clearly overwhelm the manual data analysis. Data mining is a process of identifying new patterns and insights in data. As the volume of data collected and stored grows, there is a growing need to identify important patterns and trends and act upon the findings. One of the design goals is to support CIM-based visual data mining, a powerful means of analysis that focuses on combination of visual presentation and non-visual data mining techniques as well as integrating the user in the exploration process. The goal is to provide a comprehensive visual data mining tool to help users seek the “business intelligence” in the CIM model.

The Tool supports visual data mining in two primary approaches:

  1. The Tool contains a built-in analytical engine designed to perform a variety of data analysis and then formulate the visualizations to present the analytical results intuitively to users.
  2. The Tool provides a user-centric feature, enabling users to design ad hoc custom reports and associate the data-driven visualizations with these reports. Visual Data Mining – figure 1
