Model Transformation Case Studies¶
Model Transformation Framework (MTF) is designed to provide users a starting point from which self-maintainable model transformation solutions can be derived with minimal engineering effort. To help users learn how to leverage MTF infrastructure support, three case studies were performed and included in the release. The conducted three study cases cover three major use cases that MTF is designed to address. More specifically,
- Case Study 1: Converting PSS/E Raw to CIM 16: In this case study, we will show you how a proprietary information model is converted to CIM. The objective of this case study is to convert PSS/E Raw to CIM 16. We will limit the scope of the work to cover only topology information, which is the core portion of the model transformation.
- Case Study 2: Converting CIM 14 to CIM 16: This case study is to demonstrate how MTF can be leveraged to support CIM version conversion. The goal is to convert a node/breaker model from CIM 14 to CIM 16.
- Case Study 3: Deriving TP from EQ/SSH: This case study is to demonstrate how MTF can be leveraged to support conversion of node/breaker model to bus/branch representation. In CIM, the topology of a node/breaker model is represented using class ConnectivityNode defined in Equipment (EQ) profile, while the bus/branch model is represented using class TopologicalNode defined in Topology (TP) profile. Therefore node/breaker model to bus/branch conversion can be formulated as deriving a TP model from EQ and Steady-State Hypothesis (SSH) profile where open/closed statuses of the switching devices are defined.
- Case Study 4: Converting DNOM to GMDM: This case study is to demonstrate how MTF can be utilized to convert a self-defined CSV model to a CIM model.
Each case study contains two parts:
- Hands-on: Containing step-by-step instructions that guide users to execute the model transformation process to convert a source model to a target model.
- In-depth Look: Describing the key techniques applied to accomplish the design goal, including design of model transformation configuration and model transformation profile.
