Model Comparison

Model Comparison – figure 1

The Tool enables users to compare two models and highlight the difference between two. The model comparison result is presented as a CIM incremental model (also called CIM difference model), describing the difference between two compared models. The generated CIM incremental model can be exported as a CIM incremental file.

There are many practical use cases for model comparison. Here are two of them:

  • You exchange the model with your neighboring utilities or your governing grid coordinating organizations and use the received information to model your external networks. From time to time, you need update your external network model with a new external model. Now you receive a new full model and want to find out what have been changed since last update. The model comparison function will let you know whether the new model change in your neighboring utilities have some significant impact on your external network models. That way, you can decide whether it is necessary to have your external model updated. If so, what updates are needed.
  • You are developing a CIM importer/exporter application. You want to conduct a round-trip test to ensure that your importer and exporter applications work consistently. So you import a test model file into your database and then export the model into a CIM/XML file. The model comparison function will immediately detect whether the exported CIM/XML is identical to the original one. If not, what have been changed? Some of the changes may be expected. Others may be the problems. The model comparison function will help you debug your CIM applications.
