Supporting GMDM

EPRI’s Distribution GIS & Grid Model Data Management (GMDM) project (http://integratedgrid.com/distribution-gis-and-grid-model-data-management/) is defining functional capabilities for managing distribution network models. Currently, this project is on-going. The Tool provides preliminary support for GMDM profile derived from CIM 17. The GMDM profile focuses on modeling three-phase unbalanced distribution network models. This profile is still under development.

Hands-on

A GMDM-based test model comes with the Tool. It can be loaded from the data source dropdown list, as illustrated below.

Feeder Diagram

Distribution networks are primarily composed of distribution feeders. A feeder diagram is specifically designed for CIM models conforming to GMSM profile. Feeder diagrams, schematic or geographical, display distribution equipments and their connections.

Feeder schematic diagrams can be invoked from the relevant context menu or command icons, as illustrated below.

Feeder schematic diagrams can also be called from the Substation diagram, as illustrated below.

Note

Feeder schematic diagram displays not only the feeder but also the connected Substation, as illustrated below

If the loaded model contains geographical information, geographical diagrams can also be called from context menu and command icon, as illustrated below.

Note:

  • Most of graphical features are applicable for feeder diagrams.
  • Feeder diagram support is still preliminary, with many features to be added.
