Supporting Foreign Models¶
In real-world power system environments, network models are often created and maintained in vendor-specific formats rather than native CIM. Examples include commercial tools such as PSS/E, or regionally adopted formats used within specific communities (such as SERC).
To enable interoperability and protect existing modeling investments, the Tool provides dedicated support for importing and processing such foreign (vendor) models. This includes:
- Importing and exporting foreign models, allowing seamless data exchange between CIM and vendor environments.
- Browsing and visualizing foreign models, enabling users to inspect vendor-specific data directly within the Tool. Imported models can be explored through structured views and network diagrams, allowing users to review topology, equipment parameters, and connectivity before or after transformation to CIM.
- Bidirectional transformation between CIM and foreign formats, enabling conversion from vendor models to CIM for standardized processing, as well as exporting CIM models back into vendor-specific representations for studies or operational use.
This capability facilitates cross-tool studies, regional collaboration, and gradual migration toward standardized CIM-based model management while maintaining compatibility with established vendor ecosystems.
